The career path Judy Klipin chose as a high school guidance counselor – was perfectly aligned with what she wanted to do: help people decide what they wanted to do with their lives. However, her journey took a detour when she was offered the opportunity to help transform South Africa’s new police service. It was 1993, the year before the country’s first democratic elections, and Judy continued to work in crime prevention and reform for the next thirteen years. While it sidetracked her ultimate life goals for a bit, Judy has no regrets. In her own words, “it was just an amazing time” in her country’s history, and she was glad to be part of it.
