Work It

Happy 2010 and welcome back from holiday!

Unless you are one of the extremely fortunate, very few people who love their work and enjoy returning to it after a holiday, you may be feeling a bit like a child who has just gone back to school. After a summer holiday of spending time with family and friends, waking late and having leisurely days, it is not surprising that being back at work (and back in the traffic) can feel like a punishment. Too many people go back to work feeling depressed at the thought of another year on the hamster wheel.

I have been back at work (extremely happily) for four days and have lost count of the calls I have had enquiring about coaching. It seems a lot of people are thinking about making changes in their work lives. The beginning of the year is an excellent time to assess what is working and what isn’t, and to make some changes and set some goals.

But, in order have a better chance of achieving your goals, and for the changes to be effective, it is important to thoroughly evaluate your work and your relationship with it. That way, you can decide if you need to make small, medium or large adjustments, and you can be sure that the modifications will address the actual issues, to ensure real improvements.

Sometimes it is not changes to the work itself that need to be made, but changes to our own thoughts and behaviour. Many of the clients who come to me for coaching on work issues bring with them the belief that if they could just find that perfect job, then they would not experience any difficulties at work. They imagine what it would be like to go to another job – one that did not have the same challenges that their current job has. It would all be idyllic! My belief is that they need to work out new ways of being at work rather than seeking out new workplaces; change how they are at work rather than where they are at work.

If you struggle with authority, resist asking for help or delegating to others, take work-related feedback very personally, and/or feel the need to prove yourself at work all the time, you may benefit from participating in one of the Tele-Classes, one day workshops or individual coaching programmes I offer to Adult Children. click here to read more about Adult Children.

Coming Up :

My first group workshop of the year “Is Work Working For You?” which will be held on Sunday 28 February. We will spend the day strategically evaluating your current experiences and feelings about work, where you would like to make changes, and how you can go about doing that. To read more about it, click here. The cost is R1400 per person (if you book before the end of January and/or bring a friend you only pay R 1200) and this includes all meals and materials.

The first Adult Child Tele-Class for the year will be on four consecutive Saturday afternoons (5:30 to 7pm Local Time: GMT+2) starting on 6 February and ending on 27 February. The cost is R2 500 per person (includes all course materials and a copy of my E-book: Into the Light: Stepping out of the shadows of a challenging childhood but not the phone charges). If you register and pay before 28 January, you get a R 500 discount!

E-mail (info@stellarlifedesign.co.za) me for more information on any of these offerings, or to register.

Here is to a work year that works for you!
