Summer has arrived, and with it thunderstorms and very welcome rain in Johannesburg. There are many things about this country that I love, and October is one of them. It is one of my favourite times of year, and the sheer beauty of the green, green grass and trees after a good rain reminds me of why I choose to live here. I also love our resilience, our sense of humour and our ability to adapt and be creative. We are surely one of the most imaginative nations.
One of my favourite South African inventions is the magic bean. Sponges shaped into animals, insects, fairies or sea creatures are enclosed in a covering similar to the capsules that house our antibiotics or vitamins to make them easy to swallow. They are a wonderful bath time toy because once they are placed in warm water the capsule melts and the tightly wound sponge emerges, delighting adults and children alike.
For me, magic beans are more than just a lucky packet treat; they remind me that people, too, can reveal themselves in surprising ways in the right environment. Many of us are enclosed in a clear case that allows others to recognise the colour of the sponge inside, and guess at what shape it may hold, but it is only once that hard outer shell melts away that we are able to see the reality of the creature that has been contained in that casing all along. Many of us spend a lot of time developing a protective outer layer which allows us to expose only a tiny bit of us to the outside, and keep the truth of our beauty and quirkiness well hidden from the world at large. Often, we keep this truth hidden from ourselves too.
Through the coaching that I offer my clients, I aim to help them to melt their hard outer casing, and reveal the wonder and joy of their true form, to themselves and others. It always amazes and delights me to witness clients who – once they realise they are in a warm and safe environment in the coaching relationship - allow themselves to literally dissolve their defences, and emerge as the person they choose to be, assuming a shape and style that was always there, but was possibly kept under wraps; hidden under the appearances presented to the rest of humanity. It is a something I am grateful every day to be a part of.
Unfortunately individual coaching is not affordable to everyone, particularly in these uncertain times. Many people cannot afford the financial cost, or the time commitment of an hour a week for a number of weeks. In order to make the ‘melting and emerging’ process available to more people, I am offering more group processes, which enable lower costs for the participants without detracting from the results in any way. In fact, much research has shown that, for some people, participating in a group process is more beneficial than individual sessions, because we learn so much from being with others, and because the sense of camaraderie is very comforting and encouraging.
I am happy to announce the following upcoming group workshops:
“Adult Children” Telecourse (max 5 people)
Understand and eradicate limiting beliefs and self-sabotaging behaviours arising from challenging childhoods through this powerful tele-course. R 2 000 for 5 classes, including all materials and e-book.
22 October 2009 and every Thursday thereafter for five weeks
“Design Your Life for 2010”
The Design Your Life workshop helps you assess where you are in your life, where you would like to get to in the upcoming year and how to get there.
Participants can either start the day with a view to understanding and improving a specific area of their lives, or be open to seeing what comes out during the course of the day and acting on that. We will evaluate what you want to change, identify what you want to bring in, and visualize how to do that.
This is a tried and tested formula and is highly recommended as a generic introduction to a life coaching experience.
R 1 200 per person, including all refreshments and materials.
7 November 2009 9am to 4:30pm
“Design Your Life – Differently”
This life-changing workshop is a real treat. Fiona and I have developed a (we think) winning formula that combines conceptual and experiential life coaching tools with working with horses. It is a non-threatening and fun environment which demands pure and total authenticity and honesty. You will learn more about yourself in a few minutes with a horse, than you could ever imagine. And then we will help you to plan how to take those insights forward in a meaningful and life enhancing way.
R 1 800 per person, including all refreshments and materials. If you bring a friend you get a R 300 discount each!
21 November 2009 9am to 4:30pm
Please e-mail info@stellarlifedesign.co.za for more information on any of these workshops, or to book your place.
Come and allow yourself to see who you really are. Enjoy October, and I hope to see you soon.
