October Abundance Challenge
Harville Hendrix is of the opinion that we all need to receive more love;
for our relationships to be healthier and happier, we need not to give more,
but receive more. I am inclined to agree with him, not just because he is
a very clever man – the father of Imago work and the author of a number
of helpful books – but because I see what he means almost every day.
Many of the clients I work with are ‘adult children’ (not surprising
really as I am convinced that many, if not most, adults have adult child
tendencies) and one of the things that adult children really struggle with
is receiving. Recognition, help, love, compliments, criticisms, admiration,
advice….although excellent givers, adult children have a hard time accepting.
And that can make life much harder than it needs to be- not only for my
clients, but for the people around them too. It is tough being the partner/spouse/parent/sibling/child/friend/colleague
of someone who never lets you in. One of my missions is to help my clients
make their lives easier by asking for help - which is really just receiving
love in disguise.
Paradoxically, it seems that the more lack my clients perceive in their
lives, the harder it is for them to receive. The more unsupported they feel,
the less able they are to ask for or accept support in any form. The more
alone they feel, the more they isolate themselves. It is all very fascinating
but not much fun if you are the love repeller; then it is just lonely and
frustrating and disappointing. But all is not lost; I see, too, that those
people who feel as though they do have enough – be it love or money or recognition
or help - are usually able to receive even more, and to ask for it when
they need it. It would appear that the more you have, the more you receive!
In recognition of the new Jewish year (5722) that we celebrated last
week, I have declared October “Abundance Month”. This time of year is traditionally
a time of taking stock and mindfulness and I think it is an excellent time
to be generating abundance through seeing it. Because the truth is that
we all have things to be grateful for, and elements of abundance, even if
we are not always consciously aware of them. The more mindful we are about
the riches in our lives, the more open we will be to inviting in – and receiving
– greater abundance and peace.
Every day of October, I challenge you to see the abundance in your life
– in whatever form it may take – and make a note of it. I will be posting
my abundance insights to my Facebook page every day of the month and I encourage
you to do the same. You can follow me on Facebook
here.
I am pretty sure that the more effort we put into seeing the abundance
in our lives, the more we will receive. I would love to hear about your
experiences – please email me to tell me what you notice. If you would like
to tell me in person, I would love to book a session with you. After a madly
busy (some might say abundantly so) few months, I have some openings for
individual coaching clients and am really looking forward to filling those
with new or returning clients.
Also in October I will be running two day-long workshops. The first one
“Life Lessons for Adult Children” on Sunday 16 October is sold out – but
please mail me if you
would like to be put on the waiting list!
On 30 October I will be running “Is Work Working for You?” – a tried
and tested workshop that helps you to get clear on what you need to do to
get happier, feel more fulfilled and experience more abundance in relation
to your work. It is a great thing to do in the run-up to the December holidays
and to avoid the ‘back to school’ blues in January.
about it and book your place.
I hope to see you there.
May your month – and year – be filled with Peace and Abundance!
Love Judy
